Robert Smithson

A key figure in conceptual art and the Land Art movement of the 1960s and 1970s, American artist Robert Smithson is given a retrospective show of his sculptures, installations, landscapes, drawings, photos and films, as well as writings that oscillate between theoretical musings, conversations and travelogues. Due to its often transient nature and inaccessibility, Smithson disassociated himself from the Land Art ghetto to embark on an exploration of the aesthetic potential of human spaces such as homes, offices, bridges, airports and tunnels.
