The Shanghai Symphony Orchestra gives a concert of Beethoven's Piano concertos in collaboration with the world-renowned pianist Gerhard Oppitz. Unfortunately, the number of the concerto for tonight is still unconfirmed. Oppitz started playing the piano as a five-year-old and was offered a post as professor at the Munich Musikhochschule in 1981. He has a wide and diverse repertoire of mainly Bach, Beethoven and Mozart and has recorded the complete piano works of Brahms.

Vienna's orphaned jazz club, Porgy & Bess, have moved into the present shambles that is the Museumsquartier, Vienna's answer to the Pompidou Centre which is due to open in a year's time. To coincide with Kunsthalle's exhibition of Lisette Model's stupendous photographs of the bebop era, the club have put together a series of sessions involving local musicians paying tribute to the artists immortalised in Model's work. In August these will feature Coleman Hawkins, Duke Ellington and Hank Mobley and the ticket price includes a visit to the exhibition.
